The Telangana Grameen Bank (TGB), now operating in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy districts, will soon be functioning in all the 10 districts of Telangana State.
“A notification in this regard has already been issued and modalities are being worked out,” revealed TGB Chairman B.R.G. Upadhyay.
The Chairman, who was on a day’s visit to Adilabad on Monday, said the Grameen Banks sponsored by the State Bank of India and operating in other districts of Telangana would withdraw from the scene handing over their operations to the TGB which is sponsored by the State Bank of Hyderabad.
He however, did not give a time frame for the change to take place.
Talking to The Hindu Mr. Upadhyay said the TGB will soon make the Kisan Credit Cards valid for five years using the technology it has at its disposal.
New policy
“Unlike the present practice, farmers will need to submit documentation for crop loans only every five years as the loans will get renewed automatically every year for the duration,” he explained.
Awareness
The bank will undertake an intensive awareness programme on increasing the use of the RuPay Kisan Credit Cards and RuPay debit cards among farmers aimed at curtailing footfalls in TGB branches, according to the TGB Chairman. There has always been complaints of extraordinary delay in transaction, especially during the crop loaning period.
With regard to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Mr. Upadhyay said the TGB was in the forefront on implementation of the zero deposit bank account scheme. “About 60 per cent of the nearly 8 lakh PMJDY accounts show deposits,” said the beaming banker claiming a higher rate of success when compared to other banks.
“The new PM Mudra Yojana is suited to our bank given its profile,” the Chairman observed. “The scheme envisages petty vendors and businessmen accessing banking services, especially loans for carrying out retail trade which very much suits us,” he said.
