Intel is bringing ‘Compute Stick’ to Telangana State

HYDERABAD: Chip-maker Intel is bringing ‘Compute Stick’ to Telangana. The stick, which can turn any ‘screen’ into a computer screen, generated huge interest internationally ever since the firm showcased it a few months ago.

The State government would use it to let people access government services.

“Almost all households have at least one screen. Using the product, we can convert it into a computer,” Debjani Ghosh, Vice-President (Sales and Marketing Group) and Managing Director (South Asia) of Intel, has said.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of IT Asia conference here on Thursday, she said the company would introduce the device through its network of Original Design Manufacturers (ODM). “The device is ready. It is with us. We will also bring it with the help of ODMs,” she said.

Using a dongle-like device, the stick would turn the monitors into computers, which in turn could access internet services. The firm signed a memorandum of understanding with the State government on Thursday for this and to develop human resources to help build manufacturing ecosystem.

Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the government was in talks with Taiwanese and Korean companies to develop hardware parks in the State.

“We are in advanced talks with a few companies. They will set up the parks to house hardware manufacturing firms from the two countries,” he said.

T-Hub

As it awaits a time from Ratan Tata for inaugurating T-Hub, the Telangana government has decided to go for a soft launch of the T-Hub, touted to be the biggest incubator of start-ups on October 1.

The launch was delayed as Tata could not make it. “We will go for a soft launch on October 1 with about 50 start-ups,” he said.
