Hyderabad: “Preservation and promotion of the history and culture of Telangana region is our main agenda as a cultural organization,” said Nizamabad MP and Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha.

Speaking to The Hans India just before leaving to the US to attend some functions, Kavitha said the Telangana Jagruthi intended to take the Bathukamma festival to global level.

She said she would try to persuade Telanganites living abroad also to celebrate the festival in their places, thus, helping the festival go global.

“Wherever Telangana people are present, they have been celebrating Bathukamma with great admiration and love for the region and culture. Now that Telangana has attained statehood, people are celebrating it with much more confidence,” Kavitha said.

She said Jagruthi had branches in several countries where celebrations would be held.  “I am going to the US to attend the Bathukamma, but my primary goal of the visit is to participate in Indo-US Parliament Forum meeting. I am visiting Washington DC also.

Apart from these foreign cities, even in Mumbai Jagruthi is celebrating Bathukamma this time in a big manner, so I will be going to Mumbai as a part of my ten days’ schedule,”she added.

“The festival will be called ‘Bangaru Bathukamma’. The title goes in tandem with the government’s plan to go ahead with Bangaru Telangana. So, to create a golden Telangana State, we also want women to join hands and celebrate golden Bathukamma,” Kavitha said.

On Jagruthi, Nizamabad MP said they wanted to establish 17 skill development centres across the State. “Telangana Jagruthi has been working closely with the people of Telangana for the past eight years,” she said and added,

“In the process we have been conducting ‘Bathukamma’ an indigenous Telangana state festival as major event in all districts of Telangana and overseas.” The MP said this year they would organise the festival as a mega event from October 12 to 20.  On 20th big event at tankband to all are invited..

“The extravaganza will be celebrated at Kamareddy in Nizamabad district on October 14, which will be a ceremonial parade with thousands of women, celebrating the festival.
