Telangana State govt and the Defence ministry lock horns over land row

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government and the Defence ministry have been locking horns over the ownership the 1,057 acres of land in Hyderabad. In a recent survey conducted by the revenue department, about 1,057 acres of government land was shown as Defence lands at various locations in the city, say the collectorate officials.

The Defence ministry claims that 3,020 acres of land spread over Bandlaguda, Trimulgherry, Golconda, Shaikpet, Marredpally and Asifnagar mandals belongs to them. But the government after the recent survey claims that 16.16 acres in Asif Nagar, 12 acres in Golconda, 205 acres in Bandlaguda, 18 acres in Shaikpet, 153 acres in Marredpally and 653 acres in Trimulgherry of the State government lands are being used by the Defence ministry.

When The Hans India contacted Hyderabad Joint Collector Surendra Mohan, he said, "We have conducted the survey and submitted the report to the government.  As the Defence ministry claims that the land belongs to them, the State government asked them to produce the documents related to the allotment of land.”

The State government felt the need to take up the survey following an incident where a Tahsildar in the Secunderabad Cantonment jurisdiction was suspended after he was found guilty of transferring government land to private parties. As a result the State government directed the Collector to take up the survey and identify government and Defence lands.
