D-Link to invest Rs 350 crore in Telangana State

Hyderabad: Networking equipment maker D-Link Corp. will invest Rs.350 crore to set up a global research and development centre and a training facility in Telangana, besides expanding its presence in Hyderabad.
The investment will create 1,000 jobs, the Telangana government said in a statement on Friday.

D-Link will build a secure network infrastructure in the state to provide public Internet services, according to a pact signed between the state government and the Taiwanese firm. Telangana rolled out high-speed public WiFi services at select spots in Hyderabad in April, in a move to position itself as a ‘global smart city’.

The company will deploy WiFi hotspots to provide wireless Internet access to citizens and institutions, and also upgrade the state government’s networking infrastructure to the latest security standards to reduce the risk of cyber attacks.

“India’s potential as an emerging market is immense, and Hyderabad is quickly becoming a major tech hub,” Douglas Hsiao, chief executive officer of D-Link said in a statement. “By supporting its growth and fostering talent, we believe we can open up new opportunities for both India and D-Link, creating a win-win situation,” he added.

D-Link will open a network training centre in Telangana to train ‘locals’ and “create jobs through education, recruitment, and training of local personnel,” the government’s statement said. The location of the training academy isn’t clear.
