Telangana University is slowly slipping into a deep financial crisis its Vice-Chancellor P. Sambaiah

Telangana University is slowly slipping into a deep financial crisis said its Vice-Chancellor P. Sambaiah expressing a serious concern over the current financial condition of the institution. “The University might not be able to even pay salaries to the staff,” he said.

At a press conference, here on Friday, he held the affiliated colleges responsible for this situation as they did not pay arrears to the University. The students’ fees got accumulated and salary and other allowances bill of academic and non-academic staff increased over a period of time, he said. Calling upon all to contribute their mite to bail out the institution from crisis, he opined that concerted effort by all concerned could be the only solution for it.

The number of security and outsourced staff was already very large and another 150 applications were pending, he said and added that 68 security staff were employed in the University. Such a number of staff was not there even in big and old varsities.

“We will place all facts pertaining to the TU before the Executive Council and act in accordance with the directions of the EC as regards to the irrelevant courses. The grant being given by the Government is hardly enough to pay salaries and maintenance of hostels”, he observed. Some of the affiliated colleges owed fees to the tune of Rs.1 crore and some others did not pay fee since 2012.

“We will not tolerate it and collect all the amount due from them. About Rs. 2 crore of student fee amount and mess charges was also pending. In these conditions how can we run mess”, he wondered while reeling out the statistics.

Prof. Sambaiah appealed to all the elected representatives of the district to make efforts to get sanctioned an engineering college for the university. Construction of a guest house, seminar hall and stadium would be completed on priority basis, he said. Controller of Examinations P. Kanakaiah was also present.
