HYDERABAD:Singareni Collieries Co Ltd (SCCL) expects to commission unit one of 600 MW of a 1,200 MW thermal power project by January 2016 and a second unit of 600 MW by March 2016 coming up at Jaipur in Adilabad district of Telangana.
The State-owned mining company is also awaiting Central nod to take up the expansion project of 600 MW. Once it is cleared, tenders will be floated for EPC contracts and related vendors.
N Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, in whose presence the lighting up of the second boiler took place at the plant on Thursday, said the completion of the project before March 2016 — as directed by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao — would play a crucial role in meeting the State’s power demand.
About 95 per cent of the boiler, turbine and generator (BTG) component of the power plant was completed as per schedule and the balance of plant works are now under way, he added. NTPC is engaged in the execution of the project.
Meanwhile, the related infrastructure for the thermal power plant including rail line, roads and water reservoirs will be completed.
Referring to the coal output from Singareni, Sridhar said the company is firm on achieving the target of 60 million tonne during 2015-16 and scaling this up to 80 million tonne within five years to meet the growing demand.
SCCL is in the process of opening up three new mines. These include Kondapuram underground, Bellampalli opencast 2, and Godavarikhani opencast 3.
