Telangana has received 30 per cent more rainfall than normal

Hyderabad: As of July 11, Telangana has received 30 per cent more rainfall than normal. Khammam received the highest rainfall of 63 per cent above normal followed by Adilabad 40 per cent and Karimnagar 34 per cent. Areas with more green cover have received excess rainfall, experts have revealed.

But in other parts of the state, the monsoon has triggered varying results.
Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak districts of Telangana received less rainfall than normal for the months of June and July. Their rainfall percentages are in the negative figures.

Hyderabad received -15 mm rainfall, while Medak received -18 mm from June 1 to July 11, 2016. However, IMD said these three districts will cross their normal mark in the next two months.

IMD director, Mr. Y.K Reddy said, “There is no particular reason for districts recording different rainfall. Hydera-bad, Medak and Ranga Reddy can cover up the deficit in the next two months. This variation in rainfall is called ‘intra-monsoon seasonal variation’. Also the reason for northern districts of the state like Adilabad, Nizamabad and Khammam receiving more rain is that, all through the monsoon the low pressure areas have been over northern Telangana - which is pushing monsoon currents in the region. This has caused much more rain in the northern parts of the state. However if there is a low pressure over south costal AP, the districts in the southern areas will witness rainfall.”

The city weather bureau has announced that south-west monsoons have been active over Telangana. The present condition is: the low pressure area over north east Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood now lies over central parts of north Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood.

The associated upper air cyclonic circulation now exte-nds up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. Heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam of Telangana, up to July 17.

The forecast for the city on July 13 is generally cloudy sky condition. Intermittent rain is likely to occur in parts of the city. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 and 23 degrees respectively.

Flood threat to Khammam
It will be an anxious next few days for residents of five mandals in Khammam district with water levels in the Godavari hovering near the danger mark at Bhadrachalam.

As per the latest data recorded by officials on Tuesday, the water level was 52.2 feet. The district administration has deployed four boats and few swimmers as first responders.

Nearly 19 villages across the five mandals - including Wajedu, Cherla, Venkata-puram, Dummugadem and Bhadrachalam are under threat if water levels reach the 53-feet mark.

Around 50 families from the Ashoknagar Colony and Kotha Colony in Bhadrachalam town have been moved to a relief camp by the district administration.

The water levels have risen rapidly from 23 feet on Sunday evening to 50 feet by Monday night due to a continuing downpour in the catchment areas. The first warning was issued after water levels touched 43 feet at 6 am on Monday and the second warning came up when it surpassed 48 feet mark in the evening.
