The Telangana State government has declared holidays for about 40 schools at 20 centres on the banks of Godavari from July 13 to July 25 in view of Godavari Pushkaralu rituals to be performed by pilgrims in the river.
A government release said the loss of 13 working days of the schools will be made up by running the schools on second Saturdays and optional holidays up to April. The schools that will get holidays are located in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam.
Meanwhile, Telangana Minister for Endowments and Law A. Indrakaran Reddy on Thursday stated that water in the Godavari river course was available at all pushkara ghats, except at Basar, and all arrangements for the 12-day event from July 14 would be in place by Friday night.
Speaking to newspersons here, he stated that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao were speaking to the Maharashtra Government with a request to release about 5,000 cusecs of water into the river so that water could become available for the holy dip at Basar.
The Chief Minister will inaugurate the pushkarams on July 14 at 6.21 a.m. at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district. He would reach there on the night of July 13 itself, the Minister stated.
Mr. Reddy said they were expecting a turn out of about 6 to 8 crore this time.
